Past Events

Home-Start Surrey Heath offer a variety of outings for our families which gives them an opportunity to meet others and to enjoy a day out. We also arrange social events for our volunteers as part of their ongoing support and development.

Below are reports of some our recent events:

We held an outing to Jake's Playbarn in Yateley for families on the 6th July.  Families were invited along for an hour of soft play, followed by a picnic lunch and a visit to the farm.  Volunteers accompanied their families and feedback was that they all really enjoyed it.  Several volunteers utilised this outing as a final visit with their families, who found it a lovely way to say goodbye.

We completed a volunteer preparation course in July 2016.  A big welcome to Harriet, Kate, Mandy, Marion, Sue, Steph and Shantha who all successfully completed the course and were a lovely group.  We look forward to your joining our team of home-visiting volunteers, all of whom go above and beyond their duty.

So far in 2016, as part of our volunteer ongoing training, we have run sessions on Drugs & Alcohol Awareness by Catalyst; a safeguarding refresher and Working with Stepfamilies.

During 2015, we have run Emergency First Aid session for volunteers; an excellent session an Autism Awareness facilitated by Freemantles School, which gave an excellent insight into the Autism Spectrum; Your Sanctuary came into the office and gave an informal talk about Domestic Abuse (which all attendees found very informative); in June one of our volunteers kindly opened up her home for a coffee morning and fundraiser; NHS First Steps facilitated a session on Mental Health Awareness and in December, 18 volunteers for pottery painting and a finger buffet lunch. We had a lovely time and produced beautiful designs. Some were worthy of the Tate Modern!
